Trees and Paper

Paper is one of the most greenhouse gas intensive products we use on a daily basis.

Every paper production uses fossil fuel.

Most of the paper that ends up in landfills, where the carbon in the paper converts into methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year.

500,000 trees are cut down to produce Sunday newspaper.

Over 10 MILLION trees are cut down EVERY DAY to make paper.

US uses nearly 2 BILLION trees for paper every year but throws out about half of it.

Paper production requires hundreds of thousands of gallons of water as well as toxic chemicals like sulphurous acid, which can lead to acid rain and water pollution.
