Food Waste

The U.S wastes 165 billion dollars in food each year.

Most discarded food ends up in landfills where they decompose and release methane, a powerful heat-trapping greenhouse gas.

One industry estimates that each store throws out about $2,300 worth of food each day.

Every day, thousands of people walk into stores to buy chips, cookies, candies, and other treats to keep them energized throughout the day. Even so, at the end of the week, when the stores closes, there is always some food that is unsold and is thrown out.

There are many resources needed to grow food, including water and energy. By wasting food, you are also wasting the resources that are used when growing it. .

About 40% of all food in the United States goes uneaten.

13% of greenhouse gases in the United States are associated with the growing, manufacturing, transporting, and disposing of food.
